United legend Scholes was handed the Oldham Athletic job on Monday - his first job as a boss.
The ex-midfielder signed a one and a half year deal at the League Two outfit to follow fellow Class of '92 pals Gary Neville, Nicky Butt and Ryan Giggs into the dugout.
Scholes will also be hoping to learn lessons from the Red Devils' caretaker boss Solskjaer - who has remained unbeaten in his 11 matches so far at Old Trafford.
Solskjaer and Scholes shared a dressing room under the watchful eye of Sir Alex Ferguson between 1996 and 2007
"It's a challenge for him, it's not what he thought he was going to do as a player, but it's a drug, football, and he's just around the corner, so it will be good to watch Oldham."
Solskjaer will lead United against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday, while Scholes will be on the touchline for Latics vs Yeovil.
And the former Cardiff chief has predicted his side could be a surprise name to win the whole competition.
Solskjaer, who has won 10 and drawn one of his 11 games in charge of United, said: “This squad is very capable of winning against any opponents.
When we go into games confident as we are, we're looking forward, but we can’t look too far ahead.
“We have to look to PSG and make sure we go through this one, and then take the next challenge as it comes.
“But I said to the boys, if we keep working every day in training, we can improve and maybe surprise a few people."
